- Box Pots (Maryland Style): The most effective for large quantities. These are two-chambered wire cages. Crabs enter the bottom to eat, then swim upward into the "parlor" chamber, where they remain trapped until retrieved.
- Pyramid (Star) Traps: These have four sides that lay flat on the bottom, allowing crabs to walk right in. When you pull the line, the sides snap shut, trapping the crab inside.
